Fatigue Oculaire - Comment y Remédier

Eye strain, also known as, is a common vision disorder characterised by several symptoms such as:

- Fatigue,

- Dryness,

- Irritation,

- Blurred vision,

- Headaches

- Eye pain.

When does eye strain occur and what are the causes?

It generally occurs after prolonged use of the eyes, particularly when reading, working on a computer, driving or being exposed to digital screens.

Contributing factors include inadequate lighting, incorrect posture, prolonged screen use, infrequent blinking and inadequate visual correction.

To relieve eye strain, it is recommended to take regular visual breaks, adopt good ergonomics, use artificial tears if necessary and consult an eye care professional if symptoms persist.

What are the solutions to relieve or avoid eye strain?

If you are working on a computer screen or carrying out a task requiring prolonged visual concentration, take regular breaks of a few minutes to rest your eyes. During these breaks, look at a distant object to relax your eye muscles.

Frequent blinking helps to keep the surface of the eyes moist, thereby reducing dry eye. Try to blink intentionally when working on a screen.

Make sure you have appropriate lighting when working or reading. Avoid glare on your computer screen or on printed pages.

Adjust the position of your computer screen so that it is at eye level and at a comfortable distance. Use a screen stand if necessary. Also make sure to maintain an appropriate body posture.

Over-the-counter artificial tears can help maintain adequate hydration of your eyes, particularly if you experience symptoms of dry eye.

If you have a visual correction, make sure you wear glasses or contact lenses with your current prescription to avoid straining your eyes.

Anti-reflective coatings on your spectacle lenses or on your computer screen can reduce glare and light reflection, thus helping to prevent eye strain.

Maintain a balanced diet and stay sufficiently hydrated to promote good eye health.

Outside of work, try to reduce the time you spend on digital screens to give your eyes a well-deserved rest.
