Le soleil et les personnes agées

Like children, they are more vulnerable. But two categories of people are particularly affected:

those suffering from cataracts, whatever the cause. They must protect themselves from U.V. Exposure with additional filter lenses, preferably with an orange-brown tint.

and those whose retina is affected by "age-related macular degeneration", or A.M.D.. A common disease, it currently affects one in four elderly people.

There is probably a predisposition to this condition (blue eyes, people living in regions with high U.V.A. Levels) and it is recommended to protect your eyes with good filter lenses.

It also appears that prolonged sun exposure can, even in protected individuals, cause changes to the cornea. These corneal conditions, compounded by age, may lead to the development of oedema. Finally, two serious retinal conditions of genetic origin require total protection.

These include: retinitis pigmentosa (approximately 30,000 cases in France), which manifests during adolescence and becomes permanently established in adulthood.

This is the degeneration of the rod cells, followed by the pigment layer. It combines night blindness with a loss of visual field. These disorders worsen with age, potentially aggravated by cataracts.

very rare, albinism, or the complete absence of skin and visual pigments. In addition, certain people with very fair hair and very light eyes represent a high-risk group.
